# Quickstart

> Go from signing in to a published model in the 3D viewer in a few minutes.

This guide takes you from an empty account to a model you can explore, edit, and document.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign in">
    Go to [app.gingerbim.com](https://app.gingerbim.com/) and sign in (or create an account). You'll land on your dashboard, which lists your workspaces and projects.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up your workspace">
    A **workspace** is your team's home in GingerBIM — one workspace per team. It holds all of the team's **projects** and its **collaborators**: invite your teammates once at the workspace level and work together across every project inside it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create a project">
    A **project** is where a job's models, sheets, and discussions live. It can cover a single building or several — a condominium project with multiple blocks is still one project. Create one from your workspace, give it a name, and open its home page. The project page has tabs across the top — **Models**, **Canvas**, **Discussions**, **Collaborators**, and **Settings**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Publish your model">
    GingerBIM accepts three types of model data: **SketchUp**, **Rhino**, and **IFC**.

    * **SketchUp or Rhino** — download the dedicated connector from the [**Connectors** page](https://app.gingerbim.com/connectors) in the app and publish your model straight from SketchUp or Rhino into a project model. See [Connectors](/connectors/overview).
    * **IFC** — create a model on the project's **Models** tab and upload the IFC file to it directly.

    Either way, the published model appears as the model's first **version**. One model per discipline works well (Architecture, Structure, MEP).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the model in the 3D viewer">
    Click the model to open it in the viewer. The viewer loads the latest version and gives you the toolbars for selection, drawings, schedules, and the object sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select an element and check its data">
    Click any element. The **object sidebar** opens with the element's identity (Description, IfcType, Material, Status) and its property sets. Elements without a category show "No IFC Type assigned" — set the **IfcType** first, since it drives which property sets, presets, and schedules apply. See [IFC-SG & Element Properties](/model-data/element-properties) and [Categorising Objects](/connectors/categorising-objects).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Document it">
    From here you can build [live schedules](/schedules/creating-schedules), [generate plans, sections, and elevations](/drawings/generating-drawings), and [lay out sheets for PDF/DXF export](/canvas/sheet-builder).
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  You can load several models of the same building into one viewer session — Architecture plus Structure, for example — and GingerBIM treats them as a single federated scene. See [Projects, Models & Versions](/getting-started/projects-models-versions).
