GingerBIM is built around IFC-SG, Singapore’s national BIM data standard for regulatory submissions. IFC-SG defines a consistent way to classify each building element and to attach the property data that authorities (BCA, URA, SCDF, PUB, LTA, NEA, NParks) expect. In GingerBIM, that structure lives directly on every element you can select in the model.

Element category (IfcType)

Every element has a category, stored as its IfcType — for example Wall, Door, Window, Column, Slab, or Railing. The IfcType is the element’s classification and drives almost everything downstream: which property sets apply, how presets match, and how schedules group elements. An element whose type hasn’t been assigned shows up as undefined (“No IFC Type assigned”) until you classify it.

Property sets

Beneath the category, each element carries nested property sets — grouped bundles of fields. The main families are:
  • SGPset_* — the IFC-SG standard sets, named after the element, e.g. SGPset_Wall, SGPset_Material, SGPset_RailingDimension, SGPset_Space. These hold the IFC-SG attributes for that element.
  • Regulatory sets — agency-specific bundles whose names begin with the authority’s code: BCA, URA, SCDF, PUB, LTA, NEA, NParks (plus Pset_, ARC, MEP, STR, and “External Works”). These carry the data each Singapore authority needs for submission.
Each set contains individual fields (for a wall, things like IsExternal, dimensions, material grade, and so on).

Viewing and editing properties in the object sidebar

  1. Click an element in the 3D viewer to select it. The object sidebar opens, showing the element’s identity (Description, IfcType, IfcSubType, Material, Status) followed by its property sets.
  2. Expand a property set (for example SGPset_Wall) to see its fields, and edit a value in place.
  3. The Status field is a dropdown with three options — New, Existing, and Demolish — used to mark how each element relates to the works.
Some sections are read-only on purpose. Location (Building, Levels, Space), Geometry Data, and Relationship are computed or derived by GingerBIM, so they’re shown for reference but can’t be edited from the sidebar. Editing is allowed in the recognized property-set families listed above.

Applying presets (property-set bundles)

Filling in the same fields element by element is slow, so GingerBIM lets you apply a preset — a reusable bundle of property-set values for a given IfcType. Select one or more elements of the same category and choose a preset from the preset dropdown for that group to write its values onto them in one step. Presets carry the same nested SGPset_* shape as the elements, so applying one simply merges those property sets onto the selection. GingerBIM ships a library of default presets (Wall, Beam, Column, Slab, and more), and you can save your own per project.

Tips

Set the IfcType first — the category determines which property sets and presets are relevant.
  • When you select several elements, they’re grouped by category (and host) so a preset only applies to the matching group.
  • If a value won’t save, check whether you’re editing a read-only section (Location, Geometry Data, Relationship) — those are derived, not entered.
