A schedule in GingerBIM is a live query over your model, not a static spreadsheet. You define it by choosing a category, then optionally filtering, grouping, and picking which fields to show — and GingerBIM builds the rows from the current model every time. The rows are always derived: as the model changes, the schedule updates, and editing a value in a schedule writes back to the element it came from.
How a schedule is defined
Behind every schedule is the same shape:
- Category — the IFC category (IfcType) the schedule is about, e.g.
Wall, Door, or Window.
- Filter — optional conditions that narrow which elements appear.
- Group — optional grouping that organizes rows under headings (leave it empty for a flat table).
- Fields — the columns (or card fields) you want to show.
Because the schedule is a query, you never hand-build or maintain the rows themselves.
Creating a schedule (model mode)
In the 3D viewer:
- Open the Schedules panel from the bottom toolbar.
- The panel starts empty with a prompt to pick a category. Choose an IFC category from the Category dropdown — each option shows the type and how many elements it has, e.g.
Wall (128).
- GingerBIM immediately builds a live schedule of those elements.
- Switch between Table view and Cards view, and open the Fields (gear) tab to choose which properties show in each view. Use the filter controls to narrow the rows.
Model-mode schedules are interactive: cells are editable (the Status field offers New / Existing / Demolish, matching the object sidebar), selecting a row highlights the element in 3D, and your field layout is saved per category and shared with your project’s members.
Creating a schedule (canvas)
On a sheet (canvas) you place a schedule as a frame:
- Open the Schedules panel in the canvas.
- Drag a category from the list onto a sheet. This drops a schedule frame showing that category’s elements.
- Select the frame to edit it from the side panel — set its scale, choose the title field, and add or reorder the fields shown.
There’s also a dedicated Material Schedule you can drag onto a sheet, which lists the project’s render materials as a table.
Model mode vs. canvas
- Model-mode schedules live inside the 3D viewer. They’re a working surface: live 3D selection, in-place editing, switchable Table/Cards views, and a saved field layout. Use them to review and edit data while you work on the model.
- Canvas schedules are placed as frames on a sheet, sized to a scale, for laying out and exporting (to PDF/DXF) as part of a drawing set. Use them for presentation and hand-off.
Tips
You “create” a schedule by picking (or dragging) a category — there’s no blank table to fill in.
- The same schedule definition can be rendered as a table or as cards; the data is one source of truth.
- Schedules are live: edit a value and it updates the underlying element; change the model and the schedule re-queries.
